REFENCE® is the range of mechanically recycled polymers designed for packaging for direct food contact.
Developed in collaboration with Forever Plast, a leading company in post-consumer plastics recycling, REFENCE® grades are produced using Newer® technology, which ensures the purification of recycled polymers in compliance with EU Regulation 2022/1616 on recycling.
The REFENCE® solutions portfolio includes:
- Refence® PS Air-Series Forever: developed for the production of semi-expanded food trays (for example, for meat and fish). Partnerships with various stakeholders in the polystyrene value chain, such as CoRePla and Pro Food, have enabled the creation of an innovative and recyclable food-contact tray made from recycled polystyrene.
- Refence® PS Land-Series Forever: containing a minimum of 75% recycled polystyrene obtained from household waste collection, it is used in the production of thermoformed items for food packaging such as yogurt pots, food containers, and products for vending machines.
This new family expands the Versalis Revive® range, increasing opportunities for mechanical recycling, and is suitable for both rigid and expanded polystyrene food packaging.
